Diaper rash happens! Here are some tips on prevention and treatment:
- 1. Prevention
- Regularly check and change your baby’s wet diaper. Even though diapers often do a good job of absorbing most of the moisture, it can still irritate your baby’s skin
- Change your baby as soon as possible after a bowel movement and ensure the entire diaper area is clean and dry
- Choose a baby wipe free of irritating chemicals and strong scents
- 2. Treatment
- Apply an oil-based ointment to the diaper area and continue changing soiled diapers regularly
- Expose the diaper area to air whenever reasonable to do so
- Avoid tight clothing in the diaper area that prevents good airflow
On average, a diaper rash will noticeably improve within 2-3 days. If it persists (or you have any questions regarding diaper rash), contact your pediatrician.
