Improving Sleep Habits for Infants

Tips for safe sleeping:

  • Infants should sleep only on their backs, even for short naps (until age 1)
  • They should sleep on a flat, firm surface with no loose objects

Tips for improving sleep:

  • Keep the room at a slightly cooler temperature
  • Encourage active play while awake (tummy time is great!)
  • Put baby in bed when drowsy, but not yet asleep
  • Try not to stimulate your infant if they wake up to be changed at night
  • Allow a few moments before responding to your infant waking up to see if they can self-soothe
  • As always, if you have questions about improving sleep habits, consult your pediatrician.
